We're a group of students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and about a year ago we set out to explore the question, "is Generation Y uniquely apathetic?"
We produced a short documentary that seeks answers to this question. We titled it "Youthanized" because we assumed that older generations view todays youth as self-absorbed and apathetic. What we found, however, was quite the opposite.
Through interviews and research, we discovered that people tend to be optimistic about Generation Ys role in society. Our hope for this film is to get young people to start taking their civic responsibilities more seriously, and realize the tremendous power that we have through grassroots organizing techniques and technology. Has Generation Y been "youthanized" by popular culture and the likes, or are we going to "youthanize" society and politics?
Stay tuned for Part II, which will focus on election issues, technology's role in engaging young people, and the Obama (youth) phenomenon...
Most people these days are better off, then say the early 90's.
There is a less rate of teen pregnancy, less rate of people involved with drugs, and slightly less violence.
