This is Pete Rose's last appearance participating in an event at a Major League baseball stadium. It was on Sept. 23, 2002 - the final farewell event to be held at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, OH before it was torn down. It was a non-MLB sanctioned softball game. The players in red uniforms were former Cincinnati Reds all-stars greeted by team owner Marge Schott. The players in blue uniforms were retired MLB All-Stars including Steve Garvey, Dale Murphy, and Gary Carter. It was a capacity crowd, marked by a low flying plane carrying the banner "Pete Rose forever, Bud Selig NEVER".

  • Seeing JB, Pete, Tony, and Morgan together at the end reminded me of what Sparky once said about the cohesion of that team. Here you have a black, Hispanic, Native American, and homegrown white boy - and they got along great as a team.

  • @tleatherland Thanks for the comment! Couldn't agree more!

  • @brrrdman85 i attended countless games at RIverfront, both of the 90' series games 1 and 2, the 88' All Star, etc. etc. and i can say without a doubt, yes Riverfront needed to be blown up.

  • @aviator259 Riverfront Stadium was a dump. Cincy is much better off with Great American Ballpark.

  • what was it like at riverfront stadium????

  • @tleatherland ~ this comment should be thumbed up 100 Billion times. That was great and this moment on this video brought tears to my eyes even though I am an at heart 70's Yankee fan. I started watching the Yankees in 1976, the year the Big Red Machine took them in 4 straight in the World Series. This was a powerful ball club in those days.

  • Just call it Pete Rose Day @ Riverfront Stadium!

  • I was AT this game! The chills I got from seeing the Elite 8 on the field for most likely the last time. Bench ran from 1st to 2nd out of the baseline and he argued "Sparky" style! And to see Rose slide head first into 3rd....I was speechless! Thanks for adding this! Great memories!
