all time favorite bassline.

My favorite bass groove of all time! I know this will be blasphemy to most, but I liked WR better with Al Johnson than Jaco...

Wayne and Joe made the group what it was. Without those two you would've had nothing.

@1967ax well hes certainly not inferior to any of those players... i feel like wayne always gets praise as a composer but his amazing - and very distinctive - playing is given short shrift.

it's a shame you can't appreciate bass,,,,,,,,I mean Aophonso's riff on Cucumber Slumber is quite something......as you say . Check out Jaco doing Hendrix's "Third Stone From The Sun"....It''s Weather Report, but as I said in my first post.....you had Joe and Wayne, two of the greatest musicians that ever lived and they were playing with Miroslav and Alphonso and then this guy comes along, Jaco and TAKES OVER THE BAND....and they let him.....he was that good.
The Rolls-Royce of fusion. No wanky showing-off. Not a note wasted. Sublime!

i'm with '67, I knew Jaco & Joe, and jamm'd with jaco in the 80's- but when this came out and blew my mind in the '70s, i was deep into George Duke, too, so Alphonso was a known (and dangerous) quantity - check out "The Aura Will Prevail" Ndugu (who would appear w/WR on "Tale Spinnin'"), Alphonso and George ripp'd it up the point's well taken that Jaco changed the face of Weather Report, but Joe & Wayne remain giants in the annals of both jazz & fusion -their influence lives on
