From Brahms' Vier ernste Gesänge, #3 "O Tod, wie bitter bist du" sung by Kurt Moll (bass).

Nothing to add to Moll's interpretation: deepness and at the same time sharpness of voice, kindness, presence and musicality. A piece of gold, a masterclass for basses.

Recorded in 1983 with Cord Garben at the piano.

Leonardo Fontana

  • #AkhmedSync and #clarksc1988: I had a copy from a relative... I didn´t find it out in any server for download... But what you can, for example:

    1. Listen to the all 4 songs in my profile

    2. Download them to mp3 using w w w .vidtomp3. c o m

Thank you for sharing such a good music with all of us!!

  • Thank you for posting this song. If you can, please post the other three songs from the cycle. Some of the best singing I ever heard on stage at the Met was Moll's.

Does anyone out there have Helen Traubel's rendition of these pieces from the early 40's, once available on a Columbia 10-inch LP? She is authoritatively accompanied, I think, by Coenraad van Bos, who was one of the first pianists to play these songs. My memory of Traubel's performance is that it was magisterial.

  • Hi Finistereny! Please, take a look at my profile and you will find the other three songs!

  • I want to record this with my Cello...as breathtakingly as sung here at 3:09

  • @fontana2k Oh, well, I've long since done that, but I'd love to hear him singing the other songs on the disc. :3

  • @pantanegro you're correct of course. i was reading along with my edition in e minor, and i'm not one of those perfect-pitch-having sort of people. btw totally agree with you; incredible regardless of key.

  • @aclouti6 This is actually a step down, in d minor, but it's still stunning. This baritone is jealous!

  • Is this recording available anywhere?

  • If God exists and has a voice, it is undoubtedly the voice of Kurt Moll!

This is indeed gorgeous like everything the man has recorded and constitute a referential difficult to stand up to. What makes him special to my ears: the musical line of his singing, close to a cello, never singing note by note, word by word but phrases! and also a great vocal technique without this gross wobbling we hear everywhere nowadays!

  • wow. that high f# at 3:09 makes me so happy to be alive.

  • So strong, so tender. Magnificent interpretation.

  • Fontana, this is WONDEFUL! Do you know if/how I can get a hold of it? Other good recordings of this cycle, but for me, none hold a candle to this one.
