The Last Day at St Michaels School, Sandown Road, Stevenage, 1988.
Filmed by Mr Wright (Music teacher) for nostalgic reasons as this is the last registration of the school before it is then closed and all the pupils to then amalgamate to The John Henry Newman School, Hitchin Road, Stevenage, previously known as St Angela's. Amalgamation started in 1987 but the complete transfer did not take place until St Michael's was completely closed in 1988.
St Michaels was later knocked down and turned into a housing estate. However this was considerably sped up by the fact on November 5th of the year it was closed vandals set fire to it and the building was completely destroyed as a result.

Do you remember the school fairs we we held in front of the building? That suddenly came back to me when I saw the opening shots.

Phil, you bugger - that got me quite emotional ... wish I had a luxuriant head of hair like that still!
