Nice! I was there in 2006 and Semeru used to erupt like that every 15 minutes without fail. Now in 2009 I just spent 3 days there and it didn't erupt even once... There must be a hell of a lot of pressure building up!

That's very interesting to know. Sounds like something has been changing within this mountain. In 2007 eruptions were already somewhat less regular than what I saw in 2005 and what you describe for 2006.

i was there at 2009. i with my team reached the peak at 5 am. i only there only -+5 minute. it was terrible storm...we cant make it to keep stay till sunrise, but it was a wonderfull experience

Early this year (2009) Semeru had some higher activity (2 level alert before explosion). Maybe that causing a lower pressure inside the vent, hence no explosion seen.
