Back when I was in 6th grade and fascinated by the early years of film (and fending off the ridicule of my classmates) I would devour this movie any chance I could get when it aired on TV occasionally. Some people think the 1947 movie is laughable, but the 1960s movie of the same name with Pat Boone and Pamela Austin is far worse. This movie is saved by the incandescent Betty Hutton herself, and the terrific Frank Loesser songs. Sometimes Loesser is more!

We used to watch these in the saturday cinema club for kids back in the 1960's in England. Pauline always left on a cliffhanger and you had to come back next week to find out how she escaped. I seem to remember Captain Marvel and they always used to play the film Headless Ghost.

This is from George Marshall's "The Perils of Pauline" (1947), a musical based on the life of Pearl White starring Betty Hutton. Kind of nice little film, but I wish I could see the original serial as well and look forward to its being released on some DVD.
