They will say that the causes are the population growth & the insufficient supplies. However, the real cause is the currency devaluation. Note that the price of gold is also going up & it has nothing to do with the population growth, since gold isn't really an industrial metal & also we are in a global recession (or depression). In general the prices of all the commodities have gone up. Hence the rise of food (commodities in general) price is due to the currency devaluation.

@BITARTEN2 I doubt the US will be as bad as Zimbabwe just because we have more infrastructure.
Worst case scenario would be Argentina when they went into hyperinflation.
Go look it up, and look up how many people died to see how bad it could get.
Keeping in mind, at one point in time they had the worlds 4th largest economy.

You'll be very surprised to find out that there are probably numerous edible and medicinal wild plants growing right near you. In many cases edible wild plants are also more nutritious than what you find in the grocery store.
