Woody Allen describes how his appreciation of the film evolved with his three-time watching experience. Some Kubrick films, especially beginning with 2001: Odyssey, are said to be multi-layered. You like them better with each repeated viewing of it.

  • The more relevant comment in this clip is how Woody says that even though he disliked it the first time he was open to seeing it again, and his open-mindedness was rewarded. Still a good way to go!

  • Great to hear a master admit what a lot of people don't about art. What do I mean? There is a HUGE difference between I don't get it? vs This isn't art, this is #!8&!

  • The funny thing about this is that Kubrick loved Woody Allen and I think might have been one of his favorite directors, if not his favorite director.

  • @TETTSUUO You understood 2001 your first time around at the age of 12, and yet, you don't understand proper grammar or the fact that people want to punch the annoying jerk-off (i.e. You) that posts in all CAPS.

  • This sounds like a good interview. Anyone know where I can find the whole?

  • I remember when I first saw 2001 on TV along time ago with some friends when I was a kid and we never knew what to make of it, (I think we all were expecting a Star Wars type movie or something) then I saw it again when I first got a VCR and was amazed and it's always been a favorite of mine.

I plan to buy it on Blu-Ray to break in the sound system of my new home entertainment system.

  • HE'S JUST NUMBER 1,000,000 IN A LONG LIST OF PPL WHO "DIDNT GET IT AT FIRST"....LOL........LUCKY ME....I WAS LIKE 12 OR 13 WHEN I SAW 2001 FOR THE FIRST TIME...I GOT IT INSTANTLY....IT BLEW MY MIND AND CHANGED EVRYTHING I KNEW ABOUT FILM...IT WASNT UNTIL THEN,THAT I TRULY LEARNED WHAT A FILM WAS SUPPOSED TO B...AND I WAS JUST A KID!!!....WHAT WAS WOODY THINKNG?....HE'S SO SMART TOO....WELL AT LEAST NOW HE KNOWS

  • @mgalin1 He is a master rapist, I wish I could be that good

  • Woody was from the generation that saw all the "Monster" science fiction movies of the 1950's. It took him (and others) a while to get past that handicap... On the other hand, I wasn't tainted by that garbage, and had an open mind. I was also a Gemini/Apollo space program nut, and read everything technical I could get my hands on. I saw 2001 (at a Cinerama theater) when I was 13, and I knew immediately that it was the best movie I'd ever seen -- and I still feel that way at 56!

  • My hero talking about my other hero and saying EXACTLY what my relationship with "2001" has been... Sometimes, life just does make sense :-) I love you Woody. Why aren't you my biological father ?

  • love woody, love kubrick =)

  • @RaymondRaine Please, enlighten me? Which"Limitations" might those be? Because the last time I checked... (Film), unlike any other, is the ultimate visual medium. If Kubrick were a novelist, then you would have a point.
