It was going so well! Sigh, there's a good chance that I've developed a complication from my recent hysterectomy: a urinary fistula. If this is the case, the most common treatment is surgical repair.

What is a urinary fistula?

  • I don't know how old this video is but I hope that you are doing better now. Best wishes to you and thank you for anwsering some of my comments. It meant alot to me being that I am new on the computer and all. So thanks and continue to take care.

  • @charlenemonique1 Thank you! This was just over a year ago now, but I'm still thankful every day that I healed without additional surgery. It was a scary and expensive learning experience.

  • I appreciate all the positive vibes, thanks so much!!

I did not end up getting a 'script for antibiotics as there is no indication of infection.

My gyn does not think that overactivity or the minor bladder injury sustained intraoperatively was the cause.

He also does not think that it will heal on its own or with catheterization alone.

My next video provides further detail.

Again, thanks for the positive thoughts, friends!

  • Would urinating everytime you think you might just barely have to go help with bladder pressure? My GF is very susceptible to urinary and bladder infections and her dr told her to go often, never hold it. Don't know if it would work for you, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. I know you'll get better soon. Minor setback that's all.

  • Thanks, that's smart advice, and I've been doing this. No way around it actually b/c I drink a TON of fluid in a day and have a bladder the size of a walnut! ;) I've never had a UTI in my life, and it doesn't appear that I have one now. The problem is that I likely have a hole somewhere in the urinary system (perhaps the bladder) that's causing leakage--and not from the urethra. Pretty.

  • Sorry about this inconvience. Most likely they will rx antibiotics to ward off an infection. Hope it heals on its own, but there is a high risk of infection, which isn't any fun either. My fun and games is a ventral abdominal hernia not common in younger folks but being older and having had a 12 inch abdominal incision for my hysterectomy , set me up for increased strain. I know I became too active in the bedrm when I should have ben more careful. You just don't know?!

  • Luckily, I'm feeling just fine. I don't seem to have any infection symptoms. Let's hope it stays that way!

I've never had a hernia, but have friends who have and I know how much they suck. They can recur post-operatively too. Double suckage.

I'm a very active person, so my idea of "taking it easy" might be more active than someone elses'. I'll ask for more specific advice about how much activity is OK tomorrow at the exam.

  • Sorry to hear that! Keep truckin' it will be ok. I will send lot of good vibes and positive energy to you.

  • Yes. Could be over activity...lol. I know my doc said I need to really really not over do it for 6 months. Mine was very invasive however. But still, take it easy. I know it's hard cuz you feel good, but try, k? Hope all turns out ok. Sending a healing thought your way.

  • Damn dude, sorry to hear about your complication.I hope things improve on their own.Take care of yourself

  • Thanks for this video! Im so sorry to here about it. Take it easy! Good luck!

  • Sorry to hear about this. It definitely may be have been caused from overworking the area. Stay off your feet boy! I hope it heals on its own too and that you don't need further surgery. But in the case you do, from my understanding the success rate for this kind of repair is highly successful. Good luck buddy!

  • Good luck. I hope the diagnosis finds where the problem lies and that treatment will not require an operation. Thanks for the update.
