  • A kid asked Jame DeMille if Bruce Lee was the best martial artist in the world and and his Sifu took him all he knows wouldn't he have to get another instructor. James DeMille then says "Jesse can answer that"

  • @woodie62 "I do agree that MMA was conceived in JKD,"

MMA has been around a lot longer than JKD. Martial artists have been learning and mixing styles for centuries. Completely new styles arose out of it.

Is JKD the modern forerunner of MMA? Yes.

But the idea wasnt conceived in JDK because people have been doing it for centuries.

  • @shniddles

What style did Sifu Fook Yueng teach was he into wing chun??

  • @Daddyo94521 Something that a lot of people are unaware of (because nobody has said much about it) is that much of the way Bruce moved was heavily influenced by Sifu Fook Yueng in Seattle, Wa. Lee studied with Master Yueng longer than anyone else, and held back much of what he learned for his own reasons.

  • I was at this seminar. This was in Waikiki, Hawaii, 2001.

  • @epics7 I'm thinking you're talking about katas when you say moves, right? That's what Lee and now many other "boundary-less" fighters are seemingly walking away from. I do agree that MMA was conceived in JKD, but MMA still does hinder fighting skills. There are certain techniques one cannot render in competition and understandably so. It's just that, competition. JKD was not made to compete, although it has and probably still does. JKD could be viewed as highly trained streetfighting.

  • Exactly. Jesse Glover has said ,what many people don't. Think of the influence of all the people bruce learned with. Yip Man, Wong Shun Lueng,William Chueng,Ed Parker jr., Joon Ree,Wally Jay,Dan Inosanto, and so many I dont know. That is Jeet Kuen Do.

  • @magentov nothing that spars full contact in all ranges is a bunch of crap since you know immediately what works. What it lacks is precontact training and the concept of premptive striking. Also, ive busted my hand several times with punches even though they were effective bare knuckle,id advocate open hand shots for most people, definitely women.Joe broke from karate as early as the 70s when he studied with bruce lee and started kickboxing,he was very much an advocate of mixing styles .

  • @magentov lad,let me correct you there, joe lewis hasnt had anything to do with traditional karate for the last 30 years and had started to break away long before that.Ive seen all his fights ,by todays standard he was poor but great for his time.MMA is not a style or set of techs ,its a rule set allowing any tech within those rules, you wont even have to grapple on the street if you can strike hard and first.Additionally, grappling on concrete is fine ,being on knees just hurts a bit.

  • mma is a bunch of sport crap - you guys never heard of joe lewis - he was a shorin ryu karate fighter beat the shit out of all his comp.

  • mma is a sport you try that shit on the concrete on your back or on top you will see and feel the differance- any of you ass holes ever seen or herd of joe lewis that sob would hurt you and he was a shorin ryu stylist- so fuck the steroid mma shaved head ass holes of mma
