Nitro Planes Bronco (crash)

A Nitro Planes Bronco Twin RC Plane flown (briefly) by Chris Hornby.

This was a nice model with twin OS 30 four stroke engines. Unfortunately this particular model has some fairly nasty flying characteristics, and that's without an engine failure.

When Chris lost the right engine shortly after take off the plane immediately banked to the right and powered into the ground in an uncontrollable spin. Chris didn't have enough height to recover, if recovery was even possible.

How did you know that it was engine failure?

Guessing by the way it went in, the change in engine note and the fact that it was flying perfectly before hand, straight and level.

It should be noted that the engines were very new, and could have done with a lot more running in.

Also the engines are a fair way out on the wing, which if one does stop, will have far more of an effect than if they were closer inboard.

how long might someone need to run a new engine, befor it is considered broken in?

Wow. Some of the terms being thrown around. It's called Vmc. Critical engine inop min. control speed. And guess what, the right engine is the critical engine. If you would have just reduced power, you'd still have your model today. Oh well, you live and learn.

It would do unless opposite rudder is used to cancel out the adverse yaw.

Not trying to be mean but I think it was pilot error. If the engine was to go out it wouldnt turn the plane top to bottum it pull it right to left. Looks like he over corrected!
