  • It's called a "wash." Just mix 1 part paint with about 10 parts thinner. If your model is painted with acrylic paint, use oil-based paints for your wash. You don't want all that thinner hurting your finish.

    While that wash is still wet, mix a "detail wash" of 1 part paint to 5 parts thinner. Load a little of that onto a SMALL brush and touch bolts, hinges, seams, etc. The wet wash will "draw" your detail wash down against the edges of the bolts, etc.

  • It's Tamiya X20 acrylic thinner. Tamiya packages its acrylics in round bottles and its enamels in square so there's no confusion.
