Originally released in CinemaScope in August 1959, and the last of Gene Deitch's cartoons for the studio. When he gained control of Terrytoons after Gene's departure, Bill Weiss decided not to adapt any more "outside" stories (or books), preferring to concentrate on the studio's "classic characters" [Mighty Mouse, Heckle & Jeckle] and create new ones for TV...because he wanted to make money, not "prestiege". A shame...
I haven't seen James Flora's book, but I've seen his album covers, and I think this cartoon captures his extravagant style fairly well - particularly during the fireworks finale.
