Artwork, animation and editing by Alfred Hernandez. This video was built off of three drawings I made about 30 years ago when I was inspired by artists like Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel and Salvador Dali, even Picasso and Max Ernst. It's a little bit Beatles Yellow Submarine. I wanted it to be like a painted landscape with many things to look at. In the end, I use claymation, drawing animation, and various special effects to combine live action and artwork. Music played by John Steiner, variations on Pachelbel's Canon in D and Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt. Masks, miniatures, animals, logos, symbols, life on Earth, global warming, the oil spill in the gulf, all factor in. For me it is a celebration of life and in a way an apocalyptic warning of sorts. For me the freeway is the beast, technology the trickster. Has shots of the lunar eclipse as seen in the Sierras. Footage shot in Arches Park Utah, San Francisco, Oakland, Sunnyvale, Mountain View and San Jose. With Alexis and Alex Rodriguez. Many of the techniques are actually low-tech or old school combined with high tech computer graphics etc. There is also time-lapse and tilt shift footage and animals like geese, ants, dogs, barn owls and lovebirds. Global warming and the ice age, Mother Nature and technological society side by side. A collage film, a video decalcomania.

  • Really amazing work. I love the ants and tilt shift work on the traffic!

  • Como é que foi possivel não terem selecionado este filme para a Playbiennial 2010?

  • a surreal hallucinatory animated ballet, injected with flowing political commentary.
