When I first heard "Serenata" as a young man many years ago on a record album called Coffee Time (by whom is on the tip of my tongue), I imagined myself driving a convertible somewhere in the heights overlooking Rio De Janeiro (where I have never been). I had no idea until about ten years ago that Leroy Anderson had written it. I suppose that, from a composer's point of view, this is his best composition, though I prefer several others of his. (And yes, this version does drag some.)

Oops, did someone forget to wind this lot up? They have turned a beautifully lyrical piece into a complete dirge. What a shame, if only the conductor knew the correct tempo it could have been good!
