Buy Poets songs at http://www.ncorps.eu/acatalog/Shop.html One of Scotland's finest groups, This line-up of The Poets featured Hugh Nicholson on Guitar and vocals, Ian MacMillan on bass guitar and vocals, Johnny Martin on organ and vocals and Dougie Henderson on drums and vocals.
Highly respected and popular throughout Scotland, the group members were soon sought after by other groups with recording contracts. Ian MacMillan joined Apple Records group Trash formerly known as The Pathfinders, whilst Hugh Nicholson was enticed by International recording group The Marmalade, Hugh went on to write 'Cousin Norman', 'Radancer' and 'Back On The Road' three of Marmalade's biggest hits. Dougie Henderson was soon recruited afterwards to join Hugh in The Marmalade. The Poets with new members then joined Marsha Hunt and named themselves Marsha Hunt's 22.

  • Not the Poets I remember! George Gallacher's voice was one of the most distinctive things about the original Poets - he was a terrific singer.

  • @ultras1uk Call it what you like, but no no Dawson, no Gallacher, ....I could go on. The music changed at the same time, so for me, the Poets no longer existed. As I said, only the name continued. Just listen to how the music shifted. The Poets really had gone in all but name.

  • @Hugechurbes Hi, Don't think the band broke up as such, it simply evolved until eventually all the originals had gone. When Andy Mulvey replaced George Gallacher, the band didn't break up, the line up changed. It happens in most bands

  • The Blue version is infinitely superior.

  • Sorry people. The Poets had broken up before this. Not one original here, and not a patch on 1965 line-up.

  • Great stuff Tumblerpigeon. Much appreciated. Brings back loads of memories. Much prefer the Blue version of Someone though.
