They have both said in recent interviews that they are still close, they are close as sisters and have describes their relationship as being each others sister. I think they try to keep it out of the public eye because the non-supportive gossip rags and non-supportive people who have been in their lives in the past tried to cause problems between them. Both have mentioned this without naming names. Selena's letter to Demi's Seventeen Magazine Cover launch is proof of their unbroken bond .

@wiggybis FINALLY someone else sees that too!!I have been saying that they are a (or at least were) a couple and yet no one believed me!Of course they are a spiritual couple,at age 15 they have no choice but to be a spiritual couple as boys and girls are only finding out about our bodies,so being a sexual couple is out and being a spiritual couple is the most they could have been at the time.
