Around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, September 14, Pikesville Squad 322 responded with other units to a reported motor vehicle accident with entrapment on the inner loop of Interstate 695 between exits 22 & 23A.

Baltimore County Fire Department Engine 14 (Brooklandville career) and BCoFD Division Chief 1 arrived to find a two-car MVA, with one vehicle in the travel lanes and the other on its roof on the slow shoulder. Crews confirmed one patient was heavily trapped in the overturned vehicle, and the driver of the other vehicle was a trauma patient. A second medic unit was added to the assignment, as was Lutherville VFC Squad 303 as Squad 322 was responding understaffed.

BCoFD Truck 1 (Towson) also responded, and crews from stations 1 ,14, 30, and 32 worked together on extricating the patient, using Squad 303's crane boom to stabilize the overturned Ford Mustang.

The Mustang's driver was flown via Maryland State Police Trooper 1 to Baltimore's Shock Trauma Center, and the other driver was transported via ambulance to Sinai Trauma.

  • A fire truck with a crane...sweet!

  • @kbk1061 Not only that but also they use them as shields incase another car were to crash itd most likely hit the emergency vehicles before the cars that were already damaged.

  • @redwolfparamed sometimes you need light to work with...like the lights the emergency vehicles are equipped with...hmmmm

  • Oh shit! omg

  • next time try not to park the emergency vehicles next to the accident. it kinda gets in the way dont u think!

  • Were you there? If not, how can you judge what was necessary.

  • moving the car like that isnt the smartest thing to do when a patient is still trapped in the vehicle...

  • wow thats a bad one an i have seen a ton of 10-50 heavy rescues, i live in westminster,md
