The Transportation Cabinet recently joined Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, Florence Mayor Diane Whalen and another prominent dignitary in cutting the ribbon on a revitalized Mall Road in Florence. The 1.5 mile roadway is a major artery through one of Kentucky's premier retail corridors. Businesses located along Mall Road provide thousands of jobs and account for more than $30 million in state sales taxes annually. Nearly 16 million vehicles travel Mall Road every year. The $13 million project was designed to make Mall Road safer for motorists and pedestrians. The project included replacing old pavement and storm water drainage lines. New lighting, signage and a distinctive gateway were also added to freshly-landscaped, multi-use paths.
