Please Rate!!! - Susan Gibson performing her "Wide Open Spaces", which was recorded by the Dixie Chicks. Features Karen Mal on mandolin. Filmed at the Crystal Theatre during the 2006 Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah, OK by Larry D. Lyon - AmericanaUnplugged.com. Of special interest is the verse the Dixie Chicks left out.

  • Where can I hear other Susan Gibson songs?

    Thank you,

    Debby

  • You can go to her web page which is her name . Com - Check out her tour page, perhaps she's playing soon at a gig near you.

  • Karen Mal is the one I was looking for, I heard her on a cable music station and I wanted to know that she looked like.

She great and beautiful I don't see why she was not the lead singer on this group, she sings beautiful.

  • Yes, Karen is a truly talented woman who certainly does hold her own as a solo artist and is a dear freind of mine. But she also frequently contribtes her talent backing up other estabished artists, in this case Susan Gibson. Look on Wikipedia for more info about Karen. And if you go to her website, you can buy a 2007 "Nude Folk" calendar with her as Ms. January, but be forewarned: Jimmy LaFave is Mr. July. :)

  • PS: Karen does sing lead when she sings her own songs she has written. In this case, Susan Gibson is singing the song she wrote, "Wide Open Spaces", whic the Dixie Chicks recorded.

  • nice...who plays the mandolin?

  • Susan Gibson is the writer of this Song.

Personally, I have more admiration for the creator of a song than the group who made it popular.
