30th December 1968,

Earliest Led Zeppelin bootleg in circulation, the only one in 1968.

Clearest Version i've heard of this particular show.

This was the drum solo they used before writing Moby Dick on Led Zeppelin II in 1969, this predated Led Zeppelin I and was never recorded (to my knowledge) in a studio.

The name is a dedication to Bonham's wife, Pat Bonham :)

Also Led Zeppelin were supporting the headlining act of the night, Vanilla Fudge! If you Haven't heard of them check them out on youtube, few videos of them on here also, especially their version of 'You Keep me Hangin' On' which is phenomenal. Shame they didn't get as much appreciation as they deserved.

Excellent show of John Bonhams Raw, Agressive style before his technique was slowly refined to a more wrist-based one in later days.

Don't post links on the official LZ.com website because of the Warner copyright issue, or they'll take it down.

Do Enjoy, and check out my other videos if you like!

  • ha who's the guy with him at 3:08 anyone know?

  • I believe that would be Richard Cole, that pic is from his 'Stairway To Heaven' Biography on Led Zeppelin, I'm pretty sure it was taken in 1969.

  • can you believe bonham was 20 years old in this recording. 1 year older than a teenager. I dont think people really know that both plant and bonham were only twnet years old when zeppling started. unbelievable.

  • Anybody who says all John Bonham brought to the drums was thrashing...not true at all. He brought a whole new level of bass drumming and technique. His triplets were incredible, and he never ran out of ideas for music either.

  • The right foot on this is siiiiick!!!!

  • Even as fast he plays this; it still just sounds "logical"-. Not just an apesh-t solo...

  • @ManiacDrummer1212

I seriously doubt the kit is a piece of crap. The footage, even at it's highest quality is still sub-standard for today. In any case, I agree 100% that Bonzo in terms of sound was pretty much unmatched not only by the average-joe-Travis Barker, but by most drummers IMO. Even Mark Romans when he plays on one of Bonzo's actual kits still can't quite get Bonzo's sound. Only Bonzo can get Bonzo's sound, and sadly that sound will never be heard again.

  • Anybody who says John Bonham didn't have the skills of Ginger Baker or Ian Paice is clearly proven wrong by this. RIP Bonzo.

  • The Quality of this bootleg is amazing !!

  • @John Henry Bonham I think @3:01 is the best pic of you. RIP Sir. The man.

  • @uberpirox Awesome, never saw a photo of him in the childhood:) Also was very surprised when I saw Plant's photo were his hair is completely short, it was in the "Origin of the Species" movie.
