Wonderfully concise and full of good information. The best, and quickest explanation of how to set the tension that I've ever heard. Thank you.

Excellent descriptions - I've had the wheel stick on me and now I know why. Thanks.

I have a question about the spinning wheel I have... My spinning wheel does not start spinning with the pedal. You have to first start it with your hands and then you can get it going. my spinning wheel was handmade and given as a gift.. Im wondering if this is normal and can still work this way, or if something is wrong with my pedal and I should replace it (the pedal that is)?
thanks for the video!

The wheel should ideally be possible to start by foot as when you get on to things like Navajo plying you need your hands to hold the yarns ready, Is the wheel stiff to treadle or is it just "locked" in one place. For spinning anti clockwise put the upright Footman just to the right of upright then press the plate with your toe, does this work? If not it sounds like there is a part of the wheel which is too tight.

Very nice video, Sue; thanks! The info about weighting the wheel was new to me (and funny!) and I'll give it a try. My Babe wheel gets "stuck" at the very top and I have to nudge it with my toes.

Me too. Had third attempt yesterday. Found the tensioning part very useful as we couldnt figure out what was going on and it was all knotting up. Know we know. Thanks for posting.
