  • do you ever clean the top layer of filter media that catches the big stuff or is it fine without cleaning?

  • @lolustupid we do clean the pads, but only with rainwater, chlorinated water straight from the tap kills off the beneficial bacteria, and we'd have to re-inoculate every time.

  • where is the pond?

i did all this and made my own filter but after spending £100 on a factory filter (pressurised) it is so small and my water is now Crystal Clear, much better than home made job, but if you dont mind cleaning, greening water etc fine, in the end i gave in and bourght one, should of in the 1st place.

  • @Mustafalarf there's nothing wrong with buying a filter if it does what you want. Our filter has no uv in it, and you do need that to keep the water looking crystal clean. A uv light can be T'd into the diy filter, but if you need that, you may well find it easier to buy a filter with one in it.

  • Ok great i am going to try this. I am not sure if i got all the parts right but i will contact you if i have any questions. Have any experience in rearing tilapia?

  • @elliswrightjr never raised tilapia- let me know how it goes!

  • lol if you keep the pond covered like fort knox who cares how clear you're water is lol. Nice DIY filter though, thinking of making one just like that.

  • After watching all 3 part of video, I notice you kept the bacterial growing media underwater all the time. As such, the bacterial does not receive enough oxygen to act at their full potential. Would suggest you change to allow filtered water to drip over aerated media.

  • can you please tell me the details behind the construction of this, i am constructing a indoor pond and am very interested in trying this, also the budget? it would be nice with a UV modded into it forsure!!!! PROPSSSSSSSSSS!!

  • how does the water enter the filter?
