  • when people wear their grass skirts how do they move their hips so fast and perfect?

  • i guess the movement comes from your knees - its like walking fast - if that makes sense to you in the same spot. So, you bend one knee while the other one remains straight. Once you get the concept of it, the fast movements will just fall into place.

    have fun.....

  • Hey, thanks. Hope you're well and good luck with your dancing as well. Keep the culture alive and be proud of it. All the best :)

  • Sorry, but these are the wrong movements for this song :/

  • hey, thanks for the comment - the girls have never done hula dancing before. in my opnion they did a wonderful job - different choreographers with different interpretations of chosen music. at least they swing their hips!

  • Sorry!! I'm not saying it wasn't a good performance! Just saying that there are certain movements that go along with the meaning of the song. This song was written for the last king of Hawai'i and it is really important to the culture to perform it corectly.

  • no dramas and thanks for replying. the history of the song is indeed interesting and very important but i suppose when its performed by non-hawaiian's who don't live in hawaii, but love to learn how to do the hawaiian dance, its a little difficult to have the proper teacher. having said that, the girls will adopt your version if thats ok with you

Didn't mean to do that to you. Their performance was very nice, and they all had good concentration. Very much potential!! Good luck with continueing learning the dance!! Mahalo and aloha!!:)
