Japan bombed you, and Japan had an alliance with Germany (that doesn;t make any sense, I know, but that's what happened), so Germany and Italy in turn declared War on you FIRST.
In other words,
you entered WWII because every Axis country declared war on you.
and, of course, you defaulted to the Allied side, relieving pressure for both the Soviets and Great Britain.

To be fair though we took months and months of bombing, how many civilians did America lose? We could of just thrown in the towel, watching our families die. But nope, Britania stood strong!
