I suggest that you download the Linux Mint Daryna Live CD. You can boot-it up, and see a little bit more about what all this Linux stuff is about.

The Live CD won't effect your M$ system, and if you like what you see you can then install it. In fact, you can actually dual-boot M$, and Linux Mint.
