Friday, August 15. While the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain is being debated at the Supreme Court in Manila, the armed conflict in Central Mindanao seems to be escalating. New Tanks (labeled "Tarlac"--a province in Central Luzon), Armed Personnel Carriers (APCs), and large numbers of Tagalog-speaking army and police personnel with high powered arms (baby M60s) are seen through Mindanao's critical areas. I spoke with some of them. We're trying to understand the peacebuilding challenges we're facing.
