I'm dying to see this film, even if it is the reissue I see (although maybe the full print will turn up one of these days). Bebe Daniels of course was a star of the silents. When talkies came in Paramount dumped her, thinking that she, along with other silent stars, was all washed up. She promptly went to Fox and proved she could sing as well, going on to become bigger than ever!
This was actually the end of the first part of the film. The second half was entirely in Technicolor... Unfortunately, the print we have to today is a re-issue print which is missing many of the sequences.. especially a number of musical numbers. MOMA once had a complete print (the showed it back in the 1970's), but no one seems to know where it is now...
Internet Movie Database shows him working fairly steadily through 1943, then doing one last film (Babes in Bagdad) in 1952. A brief listing in Wikipedia says Boles "retired from screen and stage" that year...he'd have been 57. Died in 1969. Wonder why he retired early.
Suposedly the parts cut for the 1932 reissue exist (among them "The Kinkajou"). It's just a matter of putting it back together.

Bebe Daniels started out in short comedies with Harold Lloyd(who I adore). It sure is nice to see she finally stopped looking at the camera.

I think he retired early because of the rotten parts they gave him. I loved the guy and his beautiful voice. Hollywood can be mean some times.

John Boles was a handsome man he played with Irene Dunn in "Backstreet".......He suddenly disappeared in the 40's from the screen. I think.
