I think David Bailey deserved what he got! Im sorry but he abused her mentally and physically! She should not have been hanged-Totally wrong!

She was CLEARLY mentally unstable at the time she killed him; also Desmond Cussen took advantage of her delicate state (Post-miscarriage depression) and convinced her to kill David; it was even him who gave her the gun.
Also, she was not given representation and a lot of evidence (the way she had been treated, her mental wellbeing etc) was not brought to light at her trial.
Yes, she shouldn't have killed him; but she shouldn't have been hanged for it.

@kevinkards Ruth Ellis was hanged by Albert Pierrepoint who once said "Capital punishment achieved nothing but revenge"...That is all :)

I read the guards got her pissed before hanging, she had to sit on a chair on trap door, dont know if its true.

@HOTPOT87 the is no excuse for murder she desevered to hang

@MYBIGKINDHEART My personal belief is that Ellis should not have been hanged, she was clearly unstable and under duress. These days she would have received a suspended sentence. Sadly in 1955 the plea of diminished responsibility simply did not exist. She actually said in evidence that she intended to kill Blakeley which is what condemned her. There were also witnesses. My personal view is that capital punishment is barbaric but she did murder somebody & there was a penalty back then.

i wonder if the 3 that have thumbed this down are coppers?

@dutchgoing The conviction was not safe at all, not all the evidence was at the trial, what gets me is we have far worse criminals now and they get treated far better and get useless sentences, having said that she should of no way been hanged and if anything they should give her a pardon, sometimes the law is a complete prick
this case will never be closed until she gets justice

@079186 The conviction was perfectly safe, there were no grounds for appeal. She admitted that she had meant to kill in evidence.
thankyou
