This song is about domestic violence, according to Bono, "because when he hits you, you feel alive", the woman enjoys the abuse, in some twisted way. He wants to "stay" to help take away the pain, and at the end "Just the bang, and the clatter, as an angel hits the ground", she shoots herself, the clatter as the gun falls, and she dies, as the "angel hits the ground", thumbs up so people can understand the true meaning of the song and the powerful message
