  • There have really only been about three performances in my life that have given me the chills. This is one of them. She remains my favourite voice on the planet.

  • @MrPoochsmooch It's not her last performance, that's for sure. Her last performance in New York was August 31, 1996 where in this number she sings, "I'm trembling now, you can't know how I'LL miss you" (I have it) :) It's possibly from her "official" opening night, or any performance in between. There is another video of her first Broadway "preview" where there is a full standing ovation during "I've come home at last". Hands down best Norma Desmond ever was/will be.

  • @sparepart973 Where is the full show?

  • @MrPoochsmooch Do you have Betty Buckley's first preview in Sunset? I would love to see it. I thought she was the best Norma of all! She was incredible!!

  • I've seen actresses play Norma who are outstanding vocally but don't move me too much, then I've seen Glenn Close who is an outstanding actress with a beautiful voice but not extraordinary one. I've finally found someone with the right balance!

  • And that moment when she holds HOOOOME, is pure diva. That moment seems to say, "Yep, I can sing this score better than anybody else..." :)

  • Yes, she was the best Norma, the full package. Her voice is piercingly beautiful and sad. And she acted the hell out of it. And her growl in the finale! And she phrases like a true actor-singer.

  • What a performance. Magnificent.

  • NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, did that role (or song) justice, gave it/her the necessary TRUE weight, emphasis, interpretation, connoisseur clarity, accurate breath, expert phrasing, and maven storytelling like BETTY BUCKLEY did! End of story (the same with Grizabella and Edwin Drood)!!! ♥

  • Just rewatched.. how can you not... freakin perfect bone structure! Let alone her talents!

  • Wow....how can she cry and sing at the same time? (Bernadette Peters used to do that all the time, but it seemed like a gimmick, This looks actually FELT.)
