Kauai Mt. Wai'ale'ale crater -- blue hole hike

March 27, 2008 hike at the bottom of Mt. Wai'ale'ale crater. Mt. Wai'ale'ale is at the center of the island of Kauai and is the wettest spot on earth -- 454 inches of rain a year! This video taken at the end of the hike, deep inside the crater valley, at the back wall waterfall. Here I took a 360' pan video shot of the crater and waterfall. The highest walls of the crater are said to be over 2,000 feet high. When it rains a lot the crater is surrounded by 2,000 feet high waterfalls -- last time I counted 17 of them. beautiful shots. going in 3 weeks. how long is the hike? miles, hours etc. thanks.

Drive to Arboretum, then 30 min. drive inside forest, hike to entry of crater is anywhere from 2.5 to 5 hours depending on many factors including shoes, rain, stream water-level, knowing the short-cuts, experience and agility, etc. Inside the crater you can go further for about an hour to the very end / back wall where you'll find the waterfall in my other video. When it rains there are at least 17 high waterfalls, but it's much harder to high due to slippery gel-like mold on the river rocks.

thanks for the information. sounds like an amazing journey that I'm gonna have to check out. so it sounds like it can be an all day hike.
