A Free Press Council in Myanmar? | Media Development Workshop.Yangon. 31 January 2012

A discussion on Myanmar press council at the workshop on "Media Development in a Democratic Society". I was invited as speaker from Thailand to take part in the workshop along with colleagues from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Sri Lanka. The two-day event was co-organized by The Myanmar Writers and Journalists Association and The Asian Media Information and Communication. Discussion about media freedom is a rare public event in Myanmar till today. Here the speaker feels that the press council must be free from government interference and there should be no need for a law establishing the Myanmar Press Council.
