Were SR&RL engines actually painted green, or is that just a preference? I don't think I've seen any photos from the railway's era taken on color film, so I don't know! I never even thought of it, in fact.

They were all black. I had mine painted green at the factory before delivery. At first I liked it, but then wished it were black.

My SR&RL engine is black painted at the factory,but counter weights are not silver.I regret it a little.

Most people try to darken the silver counterweights with gun blackener.
