  • I was hoping you would say something about what brands are best, but thanks for putting this, it’s perfect for beginners that don’t know brands.

  • @hipepleful Brands are such a personal decision that I didn't want to make any specific recommendations. Trying a variety of makers is the best way to figure out what works best for you. Glad this helped!

  • none of those are like mine..haha :) I have a question are bass oboe like a regular oboe? and is oboe d'amore like a regular oboe? Like, are they the same fingurings? Im a oboe and bassoon player and im interested on playing the bass oboe, and woundering about the oboe d'amor. Thank you very much for your time. Please answer @klbtree

  • @CookieNinja498 All the fingerings are the same, but you'll need different reeds. All of the major oboe shops can sell reeds for the auxiliary instruments.

  • I play the clarinet, and don't get me wrong, I love it! But I've always fancied the oboe! I really want to learn to play it, but my dad just bought me a $4,000 professional clarinet and wasn't too keen on the idea of buying me a new instrument any time soon. I really wanna try out the oboe, to see if it's something I would possibly want to pursue, but I don't know any one that has one. How cheap can I get a decent oboe? I need super low prices..

  • @JackiAnnLynch Unfortunately, oboes are expensive and you'll have greater success with a better quality instrument. I would suggest finding one to rent for a few months. That way you could try it out and see if it suits you. I have a list of oboe merchants on my web-site. It'd be a good place to start looking.

  • Thanks... Can I buy the Kitty Please...?

  • Can you tell me the Howarth models you've just shown please ?

  • a full conservatory oboe? is that what its called?

  • the only reason i might buy a student horn anymore is for marching band, and being the Oboe is not really a marching instrument, I would not buy a student horn..... Student horns tend to be more difficult to get GOOD tones from. Intermediates tend to be a lot better choice. my oboe is an intermediate. Doubling on the Oboe, actually improved my clarinet so much that, well, it was great. Beware, it takes a lot of weeks of practice to get the jaw in shape to handle a concert......

  • @klbtree thanks.

  • @JackiAnnLynch If you are still looking for an oboe, if you play in your school band (if your school has a band), you could ask to borrow an oboe. They might have a really nice one (or not...)
