Gem's voice is strong, meaning that she can have real volume when singing. Also, she has good pitch and nice musical sense, and that all allows her to perform a song "well".
However, c-pop is really a more softer style of music. You may say that c-pop is running out of people who are actually strong-voiced (like Gem); hence the voice is usually soft and gentle. Yet this also means that C-pop is traditionally soft and gentle, not strong, african style.
