What about when you see someone with a Glock which has no hammer but you hear a hammer being cocked?

Brief clip or brief magazine?

@OrbitalMechanics not much in the way of gun play but Gran Torino was a great film. Clint Eastwood was very comfortable wielding and M1 Garand . Clint was a swim instructor in the army during the korean war.

I think it's funny when you see war movies and they have an M16 and the dust cover is closed. Also, in the movie Black Hawk Down, in the beginning when they one guy, "Hoot" I think his name is, gets on a helicopter, he racks his charging handle. After that, you see them in the helicopter and he racks the charging handle again, seeing an animal below and saying "Who's hungry" Watch it and you'll see what I mean.

a modern handgun without a mag release on the bottom of the grips ex; (small cal weapons : 22's 25's) but normally with 9mm or bigger cals.. especially with hi cap or "regular cap" mags they'll probably be drop free... in a situation you want to release the mag with strong hand (drops on it's own) free hand already reloading.. if you have an auto slide lock.. it makes for quick reloads.. just some insight for beginners looking to purchase a firearm

About the racking. I think it's about sound. Something about hearing it just sends chills.

5:33, not true if you are shooting a .700 nitro express elephant gun, ;)

@OrbitalMechanics and some have the mag release button
I have to ask a fairly stupid question, forgive me I am a Canadian and have never fired a pistol, rifles yes, but never a pistol. I see this one in a lot of movies and I think its likely BS, but when you release a magazine from a pistol, will it slide out on its own or does it have to be pulled out or does it depend on the weapon itself? I see this in a lot of action movies where the magazine just drops out of the pistol to allow for a speedy reload.

Good question. It actually depends on the pistol, but most auto loading pistols with magazine are drop free, which is the term used if they can fall out by their own weight. Dirt, debris, or fouling can cause a magazine to bind up, but they should be easy to remove with a slight tug.
The movies are prob right on this one.

3:40 is not necessarily true. Normally, it is an indication, but not necessarily if you have a very clever gun man. This is one of the reasons the final shoot out in the move "Deja Vu" is my favorite. Denzel comes out with his gun tilted downward while the slide is locked back only to fool the gunman. Then when he's distracted he hits the slide release and takes the one shot he needs.
Otherwise, everything else was pretty right on.

3:58 - 4:04 mentions this possibility. Thanks for watching.

"Way of the Gun" and "Heat" are 100% technically perfect as best as I can tell. Of course, those two films are meant to be gritty and realistic.
A film like "Miller's Crossing" has many firearm flaws but that whole movie has a surrealistic and more "artsy" atmosphere to it and I don't mind that it isn't realistic.

HEAT is definitely on my top 10 list, a great movie for sure. Righteous Kill, another movie with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, is coming out soon... we'll see how it turns out =)
