This is a very small colony of Tricolored Blackbirds on a piece of
private property adjacent to the Audubon Kern River Preserve. The Kern
River Valley hosts a small population of the birds, perhaps 500 to
2,000 total. Unlike some of the large colonies that we've been talking
about this year, this small one appears to be secure, and the young
will be able to safely fledge before anyone cut the area. We're still
working to save some colonies in jeopardy -- if you want to learn more
