Review and thoughts on the Sig Sauer P229 SCT in 9mm. It comes with four 18 rd magazines. The only design issue with this weapon is the front sight. Sig has chosen to put TruGlo TFO (tritium fiber optic) front sights on several weapons including this one. The sights current design is flawed in my opinion. There is the potential for the fiber optic rod to fly out of the front sight housing during firing or even just normal handling. At first I thought I really liked this sight setup; after a while I started to notice the fiber rod wiggling around in the metal housing. After some research I have found several instances of these sights falling apart and the operator being left with no night sighting capability. That is just unacceptable. I don't use this weapon as a carry piece so it was not a high priority to replace the front sight. Now that I have finished a few other projects I will replace the sights on this weapon with Trijicon tritium sights. Other than the front sight issue, this is an excellent weapon.

  • can you drop some super glue on that sight

  • @morgando2 - I'm sure you could super-glue it....but I would not entrust my life to a super-glued front sight. If you have a weapon with this sight system and you just use it at the range, then I'm sure it will be fine. If you carry as a civilian, LEO, or MIL...I would personally not consider the TRU-GLO fiber sight to be combat/duty worthy...just my opinion.

  • Thanks for all the comments.

  • @ matadore127 - - My CCW piece these days is a Glock 19 w/night sights w/ a Streamlight TLR-1 in a raven concealment holster.

  • thanks for the review just got my today what can we do about the sight?

  • @chi1qaz1qaz - you can contact Sig....but they will likely not offer to do anything unless the sight actually falls apart. If you carry your Sig that has this sight I would recommend going to your dealer and having it replaced with a standard SigLite front night sight; I would not risk that fiber optic rod coming out at a time that may cost you your life. If you don't carry the weapon you can use it until it fails or do some research into other sight options. Good luck and be safe.

  • that sig is sweet! just went to the range/gun shop today and bought a 226 e2 elite in 9mm. Was a three way tie between the e2 elite the tac-ops and the SCT. Chose the e2 elite cause of my smaller hands and liked the beaver tail frame. Anyway, I shot their range gun 226 SCT and the TRU GLO FRONT SIGHT FELL OUT!!! and i lost it! then i thought of was your vid. For sure didn't want a pistol with a truglo. Sig folks should be aware that this problem is common. Thanks for the vid & info JSR

  • you said you don't carry this gun anymore, what do you carry now? also, I have one p229 and put some crazy glue on the sights and never had a problem with it.

  • I’m a firm believer in Trijicon night sights. I’ve had them on my Glock 30 for 9 years now and they’re still glowing bright. I even replaced my Sig night sights with Trijicon for my P229 duty weapon.

  • I bought a P226 SCT and love it; however, the second round ever fired out of the pistol saw the unbelievably shitty TRUBLO green filament fly right out of the front sight to never be found again. Never, ever, ever trust TRUBLO pistol sights. I contacted them via email, they told me to call; I did, but to no avail. I just want people to know.

  • a favorite for sure.

  • Will some superglue do the trick? Of course, it's ridiculous that the sight doesn't stay put from the factory, but maybe it's not necessary to spend money replacing it.
