If you spam the A button when going through a turbo you will gain extra boost. Search for a walkthrough on this it helps a lot

I try it since more than 5 years and I did never beat him...
I took every character.. every turbo.. I loose every time! I heard, it's not the only race against him.. but if I need more than 5 years for the first race.. omg what will be about the second... and third(?)
(Sorry, if there any mistakes in my englisch, I'm from Germany)

Surprisingly, the second (and last) race against Wizpig is easier than this race. He challenges you in a rocket and you pilot the plane. There are some meteorites and beams that can annoy you, but it's very easy when you get used.
