"Over grown military establishments are under any form of government inauspicious to liberty, and are to be regarded as particularly hostile to republican liberty."
"Worry is the interest paid by those who borrow trouble."
I believe Canada's neighbour has been going overboard and going against the FIRST republican.
Some 40 years of strategic deterrence show that countries with missiles don't attack because we have enough missiles to respond. Likely threats come from non-state actors, or from states which could simply smuggle a bomb into the US and nuke a city without leaving a clear target for retaliation. The maginot line was a costly defense that ignored an obvious vulnerability. It was false security that became a joke in the face of a real attack, just like themissile defense after 9/11.
It's truly laughable that you would compare our modern missile defense systems to a late 1930's defense system of another country. Cold war delusions? Try reading the newspapers from 2006-present. You will discover that: N. Korea, Iran, China, and Russia all either have a nuclear ICBM that can hit us or are working to get it, and all of them would love to destroy the USA. Are you saying we should ignore this threat? Oh, that's right, according to you, we are supposed to throw away history.
Did you actually believe that the POTUS could just snap his fingers and we would instantly have a three tier missile defense against hundreds of missiles spewing countermeasures? I suggest you go to websites like fas dot org, mda dot mil, or globalsecurity dot org and search for items like airborne laser, RATTLRS, MTHEL and EKV.
I know you want to forget history, but it's time for you to get a grasp on the real world...it's dangerous not to.
If it worked they wouldn't need to keep faking the tests or scaling back the ideal from missile defense to limited defense of a few sites from one or two rogue missiles. In any case the countermeasures are much easier and cheaper than the defense against them. The entire project is a destabilizing boondoggle. Your throwaway comment about what history shows is unsupported fearmongering. History shows that corrupt procurement will buy any crap from corrupt contractors based on fabricated threats.
Wow vintage propaganda recycled to squeeze another few hundred billion taxpayer dollars into the hands of a few defense contractors. They have been faking results for years. These systems never work, which is OK, since the threats are non-existent. It is just a shame how much money they have stolen.
This idiots first words should have been... "take Iraq for..."
You want to put missile in space? you're not only nuts your a danger to live on earth.

Never work? You need to spend some time at mda dot mil.
When the day comes, and history shows that it will, you will thank skunkworks, not scorn them.
