"Superkiller" by dairos, nula, para, raist, stonda and tpp is a PC Text Mode Demo from 2002.

Yes, text mode=ASCII (or ANSI to be more specific). The Demo won the TMDC4 competition (Text Mode Demo Competition 4). The Demo got a wopping 100% rating. No other demo ever got it before and since then, during the 9 years the TMDC is being held.

TMDC is not a demo party, it's a competition that is exclusively done online. See the Taat website for details. http://tAAt.fi/tmdc/

The original executable for Win32 can be downloaded at the following URL
http://taat.fi/tmdc/demos/superkiller.zip

More Textmode demos can be downloaded at

This demo is part of my "Demo Marvels" series at http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=00284B871DF71C1C

Cheers!

  • MAximum resolution of standard textmode is 80x50 "Pixels" in 16 colors

  • 16 colors that are pre-defined that is and each "pixel" is actually a block of pixels that make up a fixed-width font character :) Each "pixel" can have two colors. 1 of 16 for the "foreground" and only 1 of 8 of those 16 for the "background" hehe.

  • @sacreleases You can use all 16 for foreground AND background if you turn off the blinking effect. You can also vary the shade of each of the 16 colors by your selection of characters (shaded blocks, in this case)

  • I want this as a screensaver!!!

  • @flygonbreloom Yes, it's 16 colours, but you can create more colours by using interlacing. Like Sacreleases said, one block of pixels (one char) have two colours and it's easy to create colour gradients between foreground/bg by using ASCII chars.

    Demo is really hc. Rulez!

  • Thats 16 colours?

Man, YouTube is either giving me lossiness or this demo is indeed that awesome.

  • Damn this is crazy, might as well make a full on movie.

  • That is a seriously hardcore demo. Thanks for posting!
