Ringo was bitten by the Count, and had no way to reverse it and it kinda took over. But this effect was weaker when Ringo tried it on his own son, because the effect was actually reversible. The fact that nothing was done to stop the bite's effect caused Ringo to lose it. Yep. Pretty sad. But he did his job, and Django did well in avenging his father and everyone else who made such sacrifices.
