Over 400 days since the U.S. hostages were seized has brought some painfully memorable moments. Clockwise from top left: blindfolded American is paraded in Tehran after capture in November 1979, wrecked U.S. aircraft are abandoned in the Iranian desert after rescue attempt failed in April 1980. Irans President Abolhassan Banisadr speaks beneath the visage of the Ayatullah Khomeini; Iranian militants burn a dummy of the Shah; flags fly in Hermitage, PA, one for each day the hostages are held; militants bring Carter-in-effigy to his knees in the streets of Tehran; an Iranian militant stands guard at U.S. embassy. Carl Bonafede believed that the Mickey, Larry & The Exciters song, Stranded in the Middle of No Place expressed the sentiment of the American people at the time. The writing on the Chi-town record label says, A Message to Ayatullah Khomeini: Free the Hostages Now, the song, Stranded in the Middle of No Place (writer: Stevenson) is by Mickey & Larry and Expressed by All Americans, Produced by Carl Bonafede for Chi-town, Mikim Music, BMI.
