Within a single generation, digital media and the World Wide Web have transformed virtually every aspect of modern culture, from the way we learn and work to the ways in which we socialize and even conduct war. But is the technology moving faster than we can adapt to it? And is our 24/7 wired world causing us to lose as much as we've gained?

In Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier, FRONTLINE presents an in-depth exploration of what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world. Continuing a line of investigation she began with the 2008 FRONTLINE report Growing Up Online, award-winning producer Rachel Dretzin embarks on a journey to understand the implications of living in a world consumed by technology and the impact that this constant connectivity may have on future generations. "I'm amazed at the things my kids are able to do online, but I'm also a little bit panicked when I realize that no one seems to know where all this technology is taking us, or its long-term effects," says Dretzin.

  • This video is well creepy. It comes across more as selling this garbage than an objective view of technology and its effects. All these foundations funding this have a big interest in at least getting the idea of virtual reality implanted in your brain. Everyone interviewed looks like either a useful idiot or a paid lackey (liar). SAD.

  • I think the conclusion in this last part is contradictory to its content, needing stimulation to focus and the various agents like the USAF behind many of the marketing, means that the young people do NOT have control over their choices... in the long term

  • @silverandgold17 you realize that everyone that uses a computer or plays a game isn't a fat or lazy. i play games but i also go tot the gym play hockey, Ski, and curl. I have many friends all in real life and i love to read. Moderation and parent control is key.

  • @jawada3

Yes they showed us how we are breeding ADHD...and how the military is brainwashing children...then it ends on a happy note with some bimbo saying that games engage the brain the same way a book does...What a crock....turn off and un plug....have REAL convrsations with REAL people

  • Interesting documentary. My view is that it's a shame a lot of the initiatives are being funded by the military industrial complex with the view to enforcing the domination of the ruling class.

Research in these technological advancements is extensive in the areas of monitoring, social interaction and profiling. We should consider that this knowledge could be used against us by future governments and corporations.

Researching why the punch card system was invented is quite interesting.

  • I found this documentary very interesting. I would have liked to see how the kids from the previous doc were doing however. Are they still on the net? And what are the doing? How are they connected and with what?

  • @silverandgold17 "Get outside people" says the person sitting at the computer watching the whole documentary.

  • I hate digital whatever.. it's gonna make everyone stupid, lazy and fat.

GET OUTSIDE PEOPLE AND GET OFF THE COMPUTER FOR A CHANGE!
