I now have this Selectric 3 completely working. It was so gummed up the motor would not even turn and every mechanism was gummy. Cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and lubrication with LPS-2 and Zoom Spout oil got it going again.
I have a selectric 1 or 2 um it doesent type what I want when I type it doesent match what i type and the ball with all the letters only goes on 1 way please help. I really would love to use it. If you know what's wrong with it please reply. Thank you.
Good news Chad! I have one in decent condition. It powers on but the lock and shift buttons are stuck. I dont know why because this one does not seem gummed up at all. I got it from the original owner and he said it worked great when he out it in storage. It has had the dust cover on it this whole time. No rust or dust. Let me know if you are inerested and i'll make a video of it for you.
Thanks for the tip on the LPS-2. I've mostly seen dried up lube cause problems on "reel to reel" decks that I have worked on, but is a problem on most any type of "vintage mechanism".
