@jasonbsa Gee. Thanks for correcting me. I guess I learned nothing in my 10+ years as an FDNY dispatcher.
-
@aal49 and sometimes fdny dispatches and say k? or alot of times they will say 10-4 k and then transimission ends there.
-
@aal49 not in the fdny bro. when ever the dispatcher says a k she or he goes off saying their dispatch number and the time. ~transmission ended~
-
Wrong. It's a verbalization of and old telegraphers code. The letter "K" meant that you are finished with your transmission and that the other unit should go ahead with his answer or reply. The military would use the word "over" in place of "K". Which should not be confused-or used with-"out" which means that your transmission has ended and that you do not expect a reply.

ook my first one was a radio shack one too it had orange buttons up top then i moved to PA and got a bearcat bc80xlt, sold that a little overa year ago, and i just got a new bearcat bc92xlt.
why is it that after they finish saying their message, it sounds like they say "kay" right before the end transmission?
ex. "1-8 battalion "kay"?
