I agree with what your saying about how parents should spank their kids, but I don't know If I'd use the term "beat their ass".

I also strongly disagree with discipline in school. I'll be dead honest if I were in school and I got hit by the teacher as an act of discipline I'd beat the ever living fuck out of them.

And using humiliation to punish will do nothing but scar your child. It is just plain wrong for an adult to give a child a wedgie unles it was just joking around like with your uncle. What is giving a teen a wedgie gonna teach him? Do you really think that would make him stop bullying other kids? I don't. It probably just made him mad and embarrassed and he probably took it out on another kid.

I do believe in smacking, but like most things in life (from my personal philosophy), it needs to be balanced - not too lenient, not too brutal. Personally I think you might be going a bit too extreme on what you propose to do to your child, as your parents did to you. Indeed, children are tougher than many adults might think, but there are limits when it comes to exposure - public humiliation should only be reserved for extreme cases because of the soul-crushing side-effects.

Not every consequence has to be a punishment; speaking from personal experience, time-out is designed to be boring and allow their rebellion to peter out, while for an older child or even a teenager it gives them time to reflect on why they are staring at a blank wall, since there are no distractions. No two children are the same though - some do need a heavy hand (or ping-pong paddle) and an intense outlet while others crumble at a raised voice, but will go out of their way to earn a gold star.
