The ACS rejected a donation from a humanist/atheist group. Here's my thoughts on that.

"I just watched your video about the American Cancer Society and the atheist group. Since you read the atheist blog, did you also read why the ACS is being accused of "rejecting" the donation? First, the atheist group said they would only donate if they could be recognized as a national partner. They aren't a company like the other national partners. So to be fair to other teams that have been supporters of ACS for a long time, ACS told the atheist group that they could have teams, but had to participate the same way everyone else does. The group refused and wanted to only participate if they got national attention. So it isn't that ACS was discriminating... they are getting all of this backlash for treating the atheist group just like everybody else. Now all of the atheists are saying they want to be treated like everyone else... but they really don't...and in the end, they got what they wanted... a national connection to the ACS."

  • I hate the word atheist so much, it describes what a person doesn't believe and we dont do that we dont call people non astrologers or non physiotherapists.

I'd much rather words like rational, skeptical, humanist and secularist used to describe me rather than Atheist.

  • @NefariousVirtuoso88 Didn't I also say humanist?

  • @gfreakj

I wasn't talking to you specifically J, merely thinking out loud ...sorry ... in text form.

  • @NefariousVirtuoso88 Oh OK. No problem.

  • I haven't heard of anything that discredits the atheist group for being illegitimate, involved in illegal practices, etc. Turning down the donation sends the idea that the American Cancer Society is a religious charity, and don't care about anybody who isn't or a certain religion (Christian apparently). Its-I-I can't comprehend how anybody who'd consider themselves a good person by their moral. You said it very well, and recognized that cancer affects everybody of every walk of life and belief.

  • @MisterDyslexo Thanks.

  • @vangard213 Politicians are whores. They seem to do anything for a buck.

  • I see the ACS as a political group and I'm not fond of them.

  • @puffyrock2 Agreed.

  • @bweazel Agreed.

  • @ronterry1076 Seems we are heading in that direction.
